A rare Wanli polychrome jar depicting daoists in a fairyland. PROVENANCE: Dr. Robert I. Lin, brought to California from Taiwan in 1960s. 明萬曆五彩仙人幻境圖罐。形規整，口沿外撇，腹稍長，是典型萬曆罐。胎帶灰黃色，是晚明胎之一種。內壁中部有上下兩半粘接的凸出弦紋一週，足端平切，內足牆稍外科，外底有一大片橙紅色的火石紅，這些都是萬曆晚年常見的特徵。上口沿施紫金釉一週，這是晚明清初常見的紋飾，上肩及近底處各飾一週黃紅色覆蓮瓣紋邊飾，下肩飾大鋸齒狀邊飾一週。腹以綠、紅，茄紫、黃彩及藍黑色釉下彩等繪出仙人在幻境中。明晚期道教流行，同時中國與東南亞，西亜及非洲貿易迅速展開，引起對遠方傳奇的興趣，所以奇幻的景色也畫在瓷上，但少見。肩書"大明萬曆年製"款。（加州林亦森博士珍藏 ，1960年代由台北帶來美國） Size: 7 in.
