Lot-727

Lot: 727

Exquisite and rare mid Ming/early Qing crackled celadon jar with Chenghua mark.

This very well potted jar has a thin but heavy body typical of Chenghua period, but its shape closely resembles some jars of Jiajing to Kangxi periods (see, e.g., p.127 and p.196 of Gen Bao Chan’s “Identification of Ming & Qing Porcelain” (new edition, ISBN 962-321-012-5).  Its body is made of very fine clay.  The cover is not original (which was lost), and is made during alater period.  The very fine, unctuous, and even glaze indicates that it belongs to imperial porcelain.
