Beautifully decorated large square vase with Kangxi mark.

The painting depicts the daily life of fishermen by the riverside, a motif very common during early Kangxi reign.  It has a very well written poem and a date of “Gen Wu” year (1690 A.D.) of old, traditional Chinese cyclic calendar that was popular during Ming and early Qing periods.  The writing and painting are both very skillful and of Kangxi styles.  The square “club-form” shape, the body clay, the very broad and low foot rim, and the pale greenish gray glaze are all very typical of Kangxi period.
